Mölnlycke Wound Management

Wound management solutions that facilitate the healing and prevention of acute and chronic wounds

Mölnlycke works to develop wound management solutions that facilitate the healing and prevention of acute and chronic wounds – helping to improve patient clinical and economic outcomes across the continuum of care, from hospital to care in home settings.

Mölnlycke has a history of management innovations that deliver strong clinical and economic outcomes. In 1989, they invented Safetac® – an adhesive technology that enables dressings to be removed with less pain and damage to the wound and surrounding skin.

In 2001, they brought Mepilex® Border to market. Over the years, the Mepilex® Border family has expanded to include several advanced wound care dressings to treat chronic wounds and to prevent pressure ulcers. Their most recent innovation, Mepilex® Border Flex, promotes undisturbed wound healing and reduces the need for dressing changes, thereby saving staff time and improving healthcare economics. Mepilex® Surgical, launched in 2018, was an important addition to the Wound management portfolio, offering additional solutions in the surgical wound segment.

In addition to the well known Mepilex® brand, the portfolio also includes a wide range of antimicrobial variants, cleaning solutions and an award-winning topical haemoglobin spray.

Granulox® – Oxygen therapy

Granulox_12ml

Granulox® is an oxygenating spray for the treatment of chronic wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, arterial leg ulcers, mixed leg ulcers and for the secondary healing of surgical wounds and pressure sores(1). Granulox® can also be used on sloughy and infected wounds.(2) The oxygen supply to the base of the wound supports wound healing and patient outcomes.(3)

When Granulox® is sprayed on a wound, highly purified haemoglobin is released. This binds with oxygen from the environment and diffuses through the wound exudate, and the haemoglobin supplies the base of the wound topically with oxygen. The oxygen supply to the base of the wound supports wound healing and patient outcomes.(3)

A convenient spray application makes Granulox® a portable and easy-to-use adjunct to standard of care wound treatment. Granulox® can be applied when the wound dressing is changed, and at least every three days for optimal results.

Studies report that using Granulox® results in shorter healing time, reduced pain scores and total cost savings for healthcare providers compared to standard of care.(3)

  • Twice as many chronic wounds healed at 8–16 weeks compared to standard of care(1)
  • Time to heal diabetic foot ulcers 50% shorter than with standard of care (2)
  • Treatment costs in diabetic foot ulcers at least 40% lower than with standard of care
  • More than 70% of patients reported lower average pain scores at four weeks than with standard of care in chronic wounds (3)
  • 99% less slough in chronic wounds after 4 weeks compared to 33% with standard of care

Wound cleansing and irrigation

Granulox_12ml

Granudacyn® is an irrigation solution for cleansing and moisturising acute, chronic and contaminated wounds, as well as for first and second degree burns. In addition, the product can be applied on CNS tissue, cartilage and bone and is well suited for cavities and fistulas.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) ensures safe preservation of tissue making Granudacyn® a reliable wound irrigation solution. Granudacyn® is suitable for multi-patient use of up to 90 days (gel) and 60 days (solution) after opening. To ensure safe use after opening, Granudacyn® contains a preservative that naturally occurs in the body: hypochlorous acid (1). Hypochlorous acid also prevents the proliferation of Gram+ and Gram- bacteria including MRSA, ORSA, VRSA, VRE, viruses, fungi and spores.

Available in solution, spray, gel and NPWT format.

Mepilex® Border Heel
An anatomically shaped bordered 5-layer all-in-one foam dressing with proprietary Deep Defense ® technology for moderate to high exuding wounds in the heel area.

Mepilex® Transfer
A thin and highly conformable foam that transfers exudate and maintains a moist wound environment. As the safetac® layer seals around the wound, the foam structure of dressing allows the exudate to move vertically into a secondary absorbent dressing. The dressing can be cut to suit various wound shapes and locations.

Gelling fibre dressings

Unlike more traditional gelling fibres, Exufiber® is a non-woven PVA dressing. It transforms into a gel upon contact with exudate, helping it to softly conform to the wound bed. Exufiber can be used to treat a wide range of medium to highly exuding wounds, including cavity wounds.
Exufiber is made with Hydrolock® Technology to both absorb exudate and keep it locked into the fibres. Exufiber reduces the risk of leakage and maceration, helping to create an optimal healing environment. Hydrolock® Technology allows the dressing to stay intact when wet, without the need for further reinforcement, making it easy to remove in one piece during dressing changes.(1,2,3)

Products available in the portfolio:

  • Exufiber
  • Exufiber Ag
  • Exufiber Ribbon
